Gray and grey are both common spellings of the color between black and white. Gray is more frequent in American English, whereas grey is more common in British English. The varying usage of both grey and gray extends to specialized terms such as animal species (gray/grey whale) and scientific terms (gray/grey matter).

You have a levels adjustment layer which is lightening the color you're sampling. When you sample that color (i.e. with the Eyedropper), you're sampling the adjusted output, not the original un-adjusted color you painted with. So painting the adjusted color on a layer below the adjustment layer is applying the adjustment to it again...
Nov 23, 2020 · Go to Edit > Fill and choose 50% Gray. Under Filter > Noise > Add Noise, configure the settings to 5%, Gaussian, and check the Monochromatic option. Set the blending mode of this grey noise layer to Soft Light to apply some subtle grain to the artwork, which helps to eliminate any banding from the gradients, and just helps to give the artwork a nice appearance!
With the Set Gray Point eyedropper selected, simply click directly on the small marker in the image (the one we added a moment ago with the Color Sampler Tool) and Photoshop will neutralize the colors in that spot, effectively removing any color cast from the midtones.

Color Picker looks like an eyedropper and it is in the Tools section. It is identified below with my red arrow: Select the Desired Color with the Eyedropper and Select Edit Colors. I selected the green color with the eyedropper and it automatically switched Color 1 to green. Edit Colors is on the far right.
